Career & Personal Development

There is a significant investment in our people’s ongoing learning and professional development. We take a blended approach to your development combining formal training, coaching from others and practical on-the-job experience.

Fueling Performance

Our focus is on fuelling performance in everything we do. This permeates right through our approach to everyday tasks, our decision making and our interactions with our customers and each other. This commitment to driving performance starts at the top and takes time, effort and commitment on the part of all our people.

Developing a rewarding and high performing culture within Top Oil involves three pillars of activity.

  • Alignment of Company, team and individual goals
  • Fulfilment of these goals in line with our Company values
  • Frequency of our interactions with each other in keeping goals relevant and timely

We encourage ongoing both a formal and informal approach to your career goals.

Professional Education

Fees that contribute to the cost of relevant professional qualification: examinations, registration, exemptions, enhanced study leave, study strategy and technique learning sessions.

Training and Development Courses

The Top Oil training approach is strongly influenced by the 70/20/10 model of training whereby 70% of your training occurs ‘on the job’ and represents the work challenges, opportunities and successes/failures that are experienced daily. The 20% refers to the engagement you will have with your immediate colleagues, managers, customers and the wider company, with 10% of training resulting from formal structured programmes.

Professional Subscription

The Company will cover the cost of annual subscription to one approved professional body.

Training Ambassadors

Who could be better to train us than a highly trained Top Oil colleague who knows the demands of the job and the skills required to perform to the highest level. We are always looking for people who are interesting in sharing their knowledge and skills and helping their colleagues to learn and develop. It’s a key way for you to develop your skillsets and show you are eager and ambitious for more!

Be a Buddy

A buddy is someone who partners with you as a new employee during your first 2-3 months of employment. While primarily responsible for offering guidance regarding the day-to-day aspects of working at Top Oil, your buddy may also offer encouragement and knowledge resources to support your introduction to the company.

We are always on the lookout for new “buddys” and it is a very rewarding process and supports your development along the way.

A Day in the Life

If you are interested in developing into a different role and would like to see what is involved – why don’t you walk in the shoes of your colleagues for a day and get a bird’s eye view of Top Oil.

Skills Assessment

To ensure you recognise and are recognised for going “the extra mile” we encourage Skills Assessment to help you reflect on the learnings you’ve taken and ensures that optimum learning occurs by continually focusing on ‘on the job’ experiences, key challenges and new skills.
